How To Cook & Bake With Bananas
Southerners love to bake with bananas. Most good cooks have a recipe for banana bread that is ideal to give to a family in need or one for a muffin filled with nuts that makes breakfast during the busy weekdays fast & delicious.
The Technique
Everyday kitchen items can be used in order to prepare bananas for recipe applications. Gather a small bowl, a standard dinner fork & a measuring cup in order to complete the task. Here’s what you should know.
No. 1
Time & patience are key for anything of worth & it’s certainly the case when baking with bananas. When they begin to cover with dark spots all over the peel surface, it is an indication that the sugars are beginning to break down in the fruit. This is your cue that a sweeter, more intense banana flavor is emerging right before you. Although most recipes will work perfectly fine with a firm, ripe banana, particularly if you’re in a bind, it is the over ripened jewels that deliver the best flavor.
No. 2
When a recipe calls for a specific measurement of mashed, ripe banana, remove the peel & break it into smaller pieces over a bowl. Using a fork, begin to press & stir it to break it down.
No. 3
Once the banana has been blended into chunks, stir it vigorously with the fork until it is smooth with small pieces distributed throughout the mixture. One medium-sized banana will yield approximately a 1/2 cup of mashed fruit.
No. 4
Spoon the mashed banana into a measuring cup to be certain the correct amount is used in recipe applications. Use the banana in a timely manner as discoloration will begin to take place.
