The Profile

Hyacinth

The modern southern garden should include blooming seasonal flowers with rich color that are ideal for fresh celebrations. Hyacinth are perennial bulbs with bell shaped flowers that have long been known to signify spring. Their fragrant, tightly packed spikes of blooms rise approximately 1 foot in height from clumps of narrow leaves & emerge around Easter if planted between October & December. One of the most widely available species of Common Hyacinth or H. orientalis are Dutch while Roman are derived from H. o. albulus. Both selections offer colors that may range from white, shades of blue & pink, however Dutch also feature red & orange. Learn how these lovely flowers can spruce up entertaining spaces quickly.

How To Create A Hyacinth Easter Flower Arrangement

Beautiful flower arrangements should change with the seasons so begin by choosing items currently in bloom. Savvy southerners know to have distinctive, indigenous garden varieties planted around their outdoor space that can be used for a number of occasions. These arrangements are designed to be effortless & fast to prepare since entertaining involves many fine details as the event draws closer. Start by choosing a selection of simple beverage glasses & vases with clean lines to really allow bouquets to shine. Hyacinth are a good choice to use for Easter flowers as their bold, bright color signifies spring beautifully. Integrate a few indigenous southern favorites for a table arrangement all your own.

The Technique

Once you are familiar with several flowers, bulbs, blooming plant & shrub varieties, making your own flower arrangements can be fun & fulfilling. If you don’t have garden staples growing in your green space, select & plant them now from a local nursery. They may be used with market flowers when entertaining.

The  Hyacinth Flower Arrangement

Hyacinth blooms make beautiful arrangements with impact & just a few stems can be used to create small bursts of color & rich texture throughout spaces. Use them for entertaining or just to simply spruce up your home. Choose glasses with clean lines. Beverage glasses or clear vases work particularly well. Snip & gather blooms early in the morning or pick them up from local markets. If the flowers have been purchased, snip the ends right away once home & place them in a working vessel of fresh, cool water.

Gather several clusters of Oakleaf Hydrangea buds & leaves from outdoor spaces. Integrating a few of these southern gems with purchased flowers elevates them beautifully. To create the arrangement, snip the stems low enough so that the Hyacinth blooms rest on the lip of the chosen glass. Tuck in the Hydrangea buds to soften the look. Use the flowers throughout entertaining spaces & around your home on side tables, vanities & kitchen islands.
