The Profile
Sweet 100 Tomatoes
Sweet 100 tomatoes are a cherry tomato ideal for use in salads & appetizers. These small, bite-size ruby red gems offer a wonderful flavor that pairs well with cheese, nuts, seasonal vegetables & leafy greens. Sweet 100 tomatoes thrive in full sun & since the fruit is so prolific, it’s best to relieve some of the weight of the clusters with the use of a fence, trellis or sturdy staking material. Sweet 100’s may be grown directly in prepared garden beds or containers & prefer well drained soil. Unlike Sunsugar tomatoes, this variety does crack if left on the vine too long, particulary after summer downpours so it is advised to check plants accordingly & harvest fruit timely. It’s also important to note that tomatoes should never be refrigerated. If they are picked & in the process of changing from yellow to red, store them at room temperature a day or two before use for the best flavor & texture.

How To Harvest & Use Sweet 100 Tomatoes
Sweet 100’s are a type of cherry tomato known for producing a plethora of ripe fruit during each growing season. They may be accompanied with other top tomatoes ranging from slicers such as Better Boy, grape tomatoes like Tami G or heirloom varieties including Cherokee Purples. Sweet 100’s are particularly delicious when paired with Sunsugar tomatoes for a tasty appetizer featuring tangy Fresh Herb Goat Cheese & grilled Multigrain Baguette slices.
The Technique
Sweet 100 tomatoes grow in clusters on the vine after blooming has occurred & in a few weeks, they will be ready for harvest for use in appetizers such as Tomato-Basil Bruschetta as well as seasonal summer dishes including Grilled Corn & Tomato Salad, Grilled Onion-Tomato-Cucumber Salad & Panzanella Salad. All of the Sweet 100 tomatoes may not be ripe for picking at precisely the same time. On the vine, expect coloration to begin as green fruit within the cluster that changes to light yellow then red when ready for picking. Rinse the tomatoes under cool water before adding to recipes.
