Cooking Essentials
The Technique
Sour Cream
Sour cream may be used for a variety of cooking & baking applications. For savory items, dollop over entrees, side dishes, soups or appetizers ranging from simple baked potatoes to tostadas, nachos & your favorite chili. When sweets beckon, nothing quite beats the taste & texture sour cream provides in cookies, cupcakes, bars & frostings as the distinctive twang adds instant interest. Sour cream is made most generally from a combination of both cream & milk. Lactic acid & bacteria are then added which in turn ferments or sours the mixture & thicken it, too. A few tablespoons of sour cream has approximately 60 calories & close to 6 grams of fat per serving. When used in larger amounts such as in baked good applications, sour cream can be relied on in providing a sound source of calcium & vitamin A which aides in strong bone health & the immune system.

How To Use Sour Cream
Sour cream is an extremely versatile dairy ingredient. It may be used as a garnish that adds rich flavor to Beef Tostadas, serve as the baseline for many wonderful dipping sauces or baked into cakes for exceptional good taste.
The Technique
Sour cream can serve as the crowning jewel to many recipes. Although it’s simple to just stir well & top over your favorite recipes, place a bit in a zip-top freezer bag or disposable piping bag, snip the corner or end, then drizzle a design over nachos or many of your other favorite foods.
