Buttermilk Gingerbread Cookie dough may be fashioned in various shapes & sizes in order to create cookies for holiday gifting. A small 1 1/2 x 1-inch cutter will yield approximately 12 dozen or so miniature nibbles that are ideal to package in lined bakery bags with a bit of ribbon or string & a personalized gift tag. How To Decorate Cookies With An Egg Wash

Whether your recipe instructs to use a whole egg & water, just the yolk & a bit of cream or another combination, just know specific egg washes are chosen in order to produce a specific results. Since there are not any additional adornments or decorations used to create these particular cookies, the specific task of the egg wash is to take the baked goods from having a dull or matte appearance to shiny. It is a technique also used to make classic Buttermilk Marranitos.

Once the miniature shapes have been cut from Buttermilk Gingerbread Cookie dough, place them 1/2-inch apart on parchment paper-lined half sheet pans. Whisk together an egg with a bit of water in a small bowl. Pour the mixture through a fine wire mesh strainer. Using a good pastry brush, swipe the egg wash over the dough. Bake the filled pans at 350 degrees for 7 to 9 minutes. Cool completely.
