The Profile

Queso Fresco

Queso fresco has long been an essential ingredient used in authentic Mexican cuisine. It is a mild, fresh crumbling cheese typically prepared using cow or goat milk. Queso fresco may be identified as having a slightly salty yet bright, milky flavor with just a hint of twang. It is made with rennet, an acid sourced to animals, that works to curdle the milk to make the cheese. Queso fresco is simple enough to prepare in your own kitchen, however it’s also readily available & certainly an economical purchase that may be used in so many food applications. Classic cuisine aside, sprinkle it over salads, soup & use in sandwiches that feature a range of global styles to add an extra boost to a variety of recipes. Learn how to use & store queso fresco

The shelf life of queso fresco is approximately 2 weeks if stored well. Once the batch has been opened, keep the remaining portion of cheese in it’s original packaging, then tuck it into a plastic quart-size resealable bag. Store in a consistently cold zone in the refrigerator such as a drawer.
