Black beans may be served by themselves or cooked & used as a recipe component in order to make many delicious main dishes such as burritos, quesadillas & more. They are wonderful in dips & appetizers or may be added to soups for a heartier meal. The good news is that black beans may be purchased in the dry form or ready to use in cans. The latter makes recipes preparations a bit faster. If purchasing them dried, once they have been soaked, it’s just a matter of a little cook time that is needed in order to season them. Plan to simmer in approximately 8 cups of water for 2 hours or so or until tender although I prefer to prepare them with chicken broth, a bit of crushed garlic, red pepper flakes, salt & pepper for wonderful flavor. How To Soak & Prepare Dried Black Beans For Cooking

Soaking dried black beans overnight will speed up the cooking process. Once hydrated, they may be used to make a variety of tempting recipes such as quesadillas & many other authentic Mexican cuisine classics. Follow this simple method to have them available for a variety of recipe solutions.

Soak 1-pound black beans in 8 cups cold water in a 4 quart saucepan 8 hours or overnight. The beans will expand during the process. Drain the beans. Rinse under cool water. Use as directed in specific recipe applications.
