1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
8 thick cut bacon slices, cut into thirds
1/4 cup maple syrup
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Stir together the first 3 ingredients in a small bowl. Place the bacon on a lightly greased rack over a foil-lined half sheet pan. Brush the bacon with half of the syrup & sprinkle with half of the sugar mixture. Bake 15 minutes. Turn the bacon & brush with the remaining syrup & sprinkle with the remaining sugar mixture. Bake an additional 15 minutes or until crisp. Cool 30 minutes. Optional Grilling Instructions: For added smoky flavor, place the sheet pan of prepped bacon pieces on the grill over Medium heat 10 minutes. Carefully remove the sheet pan from the grill using heavy-duty grilling oven mitts. The pan will be extremely hot. Proceed with the baking & additional recipe instructions as directed.

How To Troubleshoot Bacon Candy
This tailgaters dream snack is easier to make than you may think.
Follow these tips to avoid any snafu that may surface.
The Technique
No. 1
The Pointers
Slicing the bacon into smaller pieces before baking makes it easier to manage. Be certain they don’t overlap so that the candy crisps evenly.
Sprinkle the brown sugar spice blend in an even layer. Any large chunks will not cook & caramelize uniformly.
Once the bacon is removed from the oven, allow it to stand for good snacking crunch.
Store any remaining pieces in the refrigerator for the sake of food safety.
