The Technique
Triple Threat Snack Mix
A good old fashioned snack mix combination is a football party must as it may accompany cocktails, sandwiches, hamburgers or kabobs. It can also bridge the hunger gap when a variety of smoked fan-fare is in the works that may range from extreme tailgating recipes to classic ribs. Triple Threat Snack Mix features charming Chalk Talk Crackers with a relatively neutral flavor profile that pairs beautifully with highly seasoned dips & spread options to crunchy blends filled with nuts, pretzels & so much more. Be certain this delicious snack mix is reserved a spot on your tailgating social menu all season long.
Triple Threat Snack Mix
makes about 15 cups
The Basic Fundamentals
This spicy combination features three varieties of pepper & is quite addictive. Accompany with a round of Classic Old Fashioned Shooters.
Chalk Talk Crackers
6 cups corn cereal squares
4 cups pretzels sticks
1 cup lightly salted, roasted almonds
1 cup lightly salted cocktail peanuts
1 1/4 tsp kosher salt
3/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
3/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 tsp ground red pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/3 cup melted butter
3 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Prepare the Chalk Talk Crackers as directed. Combine the cereal, the pretzels, the almonds & the peanuts in a large bowl. Set aside. Stir together the salt, the black pepper, the crushed red pepper, the ground red pepper & the garlic powder in a small bowl. Sprinkle over the cereal mixture & give it a toss. Stir together the melted butter & the vinegar. Drizzle half of the butter mixture over the cereal & toss well to coat. Repeat. Spread the cereal mixture onto a lightly greased half sheet pan. Bake 1 hour, stirring every 20 minutes. Sprinkle generously with additional kosher salt & freshly ground pepper. Cool completely. Store in an airtight container up to 5 days.
The Extra Point
A variety of snack nibbles & cereals can be substituted for an instant game changer. Simply make an equal exchange to maintain the overall flavor of the mix.
