How To Prep Wooden Skewers For Grilling
a few points keep flare ups at bay

Place the wooden skewers in a shallow container.
Add enough water to cover & let stand at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours
before threading with meat or vegetables.

The key is to saturate the wood to prevent fiery flames.

everything you need to know

The Threading

Grade school kids are the perfect age for lending a hand in the kitchen.
I had a few special half-pints help me thread the skewers for grilling.

One used rubber gloves & the other braved the chicken fearlessly.
One of the girls explained to her sister that the technique was like stitching a hem in sewing class.

The Measuring

The kitchen is fun for learning.
The girls were taught the difference between cup sizes & teaspoon measurments.

The Well-Seasoned Pro

Kosher salt & pepper make a beautiful & simple garnish to the kabobs.
The extra flavor will be appreciated, too.

The Substitution

Try apricot preserves or orange marmalade for a delicious twist.
