The Profile
Phalaenopsis Orchids
Phalaenopsis Orchids are some of the most lovely flowers to showcase for holiday parties in your home. It is a genus also referred to as moth orchids that includes approximately 70 species ranging in color from white to purple & many interesting combinations in between. Choose bright white blooms atop vibrant green stems & look for healthy, lush leaves when Christmas celebrations are in order. If you choose well, they will reward you with their beauty for several months. Choose a radiant location that is well lit yet away from direct sunlight. Phalaenopsis Orchids should not be watered too frequently. Once a week, splash roots with several tablespoons of water or top them with a few ice cubes. A comfortable room temperature will allow them to thrive. Ideally, make certain the location is between 65 & 80 degrees to ensure longevity.

How To Naturalize Orchids
Beautiful flower arrangements should change with the seasons so begin by choosing items currently in bloom. Creating arrangements to use for holiday entertaining need not be complex & with a little information even a novice can learn how to make one instantly. Phalaenopsis Orchids offer an effortless, sophisticated look. The arching branches hold numerous flowers & once open, they can last for months if the proper care is used.
The Technique
Phalaenopsis Orchids are readily available from a variety of sources during the holidays. Although many are offered with the intention they are ready to display in a ceramic pot, a bit of your personal style will really allow them to shine for festivities. In about 10 minutes, you can transform them from average arrangements to something grand. First, choose a simple glass or ceramic container. Carefully remove the orchid & the bark from the pot in which it was purchased & place them in the new one. Fill in around the roots loosely with additional mulch to stabilize the plant. Next, remove the bamboo that is being used to hold the stems upright & replace them with thinly snipped branches from your yard. Try to use something similar in diameter. Crape myrtles work particularly well. Insert them close to the stems & gently wind it around the branch to hold it upright. Top with moss. Use a bit of garden twine to draw in multiple blooms, if necessary.
