Magic By Mail

Have you ever received a box of freshly baked holiday goodies? Sister, my mother-in-law… it’s a southern thing, sends a package of treats from Charleston each year filled with some of my husband’s very favorite nibbles. She carefully wraps cheese straws, pecan studded Viennese crescents & gingerbread boys in wax paper & snuggles them into a bright red cookie tin to ensure a comfortable journey to our home. Even though there are times when we can not be together as a family during the holidays, having a plate of her heirloom recipes on Christmas eve with a cup of hot cocoa in front of the tree makes it feel as though she is right there with us.

It’s easy to create your own new traditions. Sprouts makes dressing an army of freshly baked gingerbread boys fun. These handsome soldiers stand at attention & sport some of your favorite Christmas time flavors. You can instantly upgrade traditional gingerbread dough with a refined mix of quality ingredients by using a rich dark brown sugar, indulgent cocoa powder and toasted walnuts while sticking to a classic ginger flavor with Sprouts custom-blended pumpkin pie spice. A well-mannered line up of freshly baked treats offer a host of decorating options. Keep it simple with merry & bright chocolate buttons, a ritzy finishing touch that make these cookies perfect for sharing.

Small bakery boxes offer a great starting point.
Line the inside with layers of parchment paper which will provide a cushion
during the trip to keep treats looking their best.

Decorate the box as you wish being mindful that you’ll need to slip
the gift into something more sturdy for mailing.
Check with craft stores & shipping centers for something a wee bit larger.
The more compact the fit, the less likely any cookies will break along the way.
Stuff extra space with styrofoam peanuts or bubble wrap.

Send along any candies in a separate small bag.
Let the recipient add the finishing touches as they may pop off during transit.
Include simple instructions for the quick icing.
Don’t forget to add a note or holiday card extending well wishes!
