Azalea Yard Clippings

Azaleas. Southern women just love them & they can tell you which variety they have growing on the grounds. My grandmother was particularly fond of Coral Bells, a selection filled profusely with small pink blooms that most certainly make their presence known. My mother chose to plant them in her yard as well as they are prized for the abundant clusters. Rhododendrons & azaleas are perhaps the most coveted flowering shrubs the South has to offer which are both technically classified to the genius rhododendron with hundreds of species to admire. When these shrubs bloom, you know spring is well underway & several branches can be cut & enjoyed all around the home. It is a distinct signal that calendars are beginning to fill with special celebrations to honor those very dear. Learn how to create a simple floral arrangement using items snipped from your yard.

The Profile

Azalea

One of the most popular azalea varieties is Mrs. G.G. Gerbing. Although many azaleas thrive best with filtered light, this particular variety can withstand more direct exposure to the sun. The evergreen shrub is also larger than average in size & spreads with growth offering a rich green broadleaf foliage. Once the pure white flowers open, expect a spectacular display with clusters of blooms that fill the entire plant. The Mrs. makes a good foundation choice & can be used as a hedge or in mass groupings for solid impact. If you are looking to add azaleas to your landscape, this variety is a showstopper & an absolute must.
