You don’t have to live in the south to have a southern state of mind. That sense of community… you build it where ever you go. The world is hungry for it.
-Nikki DeLoach

Nikki DeLoach began her career in the entertainment industry early in life starring with other Hollywood notables, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and Ryan Gosling on “The Mickey Mouse Club”. Nikki then went on to work in the music industry, as a recording artist and as an actress in film and television. Her latest role as Lacey Hamilton on MTV’s #1 scripted and critically-acclaimed show, “Awkward” has been recognized on the top “Best of TV Lists” including: Variety, USA Today, Huffington Post, New York Times and Time.

I sat down for a phone chat with Nikki recently and it didn’t take long for us to hit it off. This spunky, down-to-earth actress is the real deal… spreading good old fashioned southern hospitality and values in LA. There was much talk of the importance of our southern heritage, the best biscuit in Georgia & football Saturday’s at Sanford stadium.

Being a new mom, her southern values &

1.) How do you juggle being a new mom & having a bustling career?

I’ve been in the industry a good while now. It’s one of mountains and valleys. I’ve started over four times and it hasn’t been easy. Sure, I thought about quitting but what am going to do, call my agent and tell them that’s it? No, it just wasn’t an option. I had to stick it out not just for me but for so many others in my life as well.

Being a new mom is exhausting! But I’ve never been so in love with something in my entire life. No words can really describe it– like God. You feel it on a cellular level. And I have the most amazing help. I simply couldn’t do it alone and I don’t think that’s what a lot of people talk about. I’m so fortunate to have amazing people that help me. It’s the hardest job on the planet!

2.) What projects are you currently working on?

I’m excited to be an expert blogger with I’ll be sharing what it’s like being a new mom and, well, not being perfect and that it’s okay. I think many people will be able to relate. I also want to talk about how important it is for women to stick together. I was raised to be a team player not a princess. I want to change the conversation. We are much stronger in numbers. We are superheros!

I’m also thrilled that Season 4 of “Awkward” is set to premiere next month on MTV!

3.) Tell us about your role as Lacey Hamilton.

It’s a show filled with phenomenal writing and a wonderful cast. My character is a bit clueless about raising a child so I’m learning to be a great mom while raising my daughter… we’re sort of growing up together. It’s a show with a lot of love built on the foundation of their mother/daughter relationship.

4.) Who influenced you most in the path you’ve chosen?

Barbra Streisand. I fell in love with her in “Funny Girl”. My grandmother, Nana, also influenced my love of musicals and performing.

5.) Do you have time to entertain?

Yes! I recently had some of the girls over from “Awkward”. We had Georgia Caviar, of course, and I made a Kale Salad with Goat Cheese & Candied Walnuts. On the day of the Super Bowl, I was actually scheduled to film but my husband said he was going to have a few friends over and not to worry with making anything special for them. No way. You better believe I was in the kitchen on Saturday preparing homemade snacks for his guests that he could pull out in my absence! It’s part of who I am, my Southern upbringing. I’m currently working on a cookbook!

6.) Biscuits or cornbread?

The Sausage & Egg Biscuit from Jerry J’s in Waycross, GA… it’s so good it will make you want to punch yourself in the face!

You can also catch Nikki in films such as “Love & Other Drugs” where she starred opposite Jake Gyllenhaal, “Flying Lessons” opposite Maggie Grace and Hal Halbrook, and the French comedy “Hollywoo”. Nikki’s television credits include series regular roles on NBC’s “Windfall” and FOX’s “North Shore” , and most recently recurred on the CW’s “Ringer”, opposite Sarah Michelle Gellar.

Ginny, who was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, was left blind due to a degenerative eye disorder by the age of three but that didn’t stop her from pursuing a musical career as a means to express her thoughts and dreams.
