{letterpress hand-crafted cards & tags}

Letterpress is the oldest form of printing.
Local artisan, Ashley Leath creates her custom cards and tags with her press affectionately named Ceci which dates back to 1884.

The wooden shelf attached to her front is dinged and stained, but we love this about her because it shows her history. When we print, each color is added to the press one at a time by hand. The paper is fed through individually. So, a card with three colors has to go through the press three different times—just for that single greeting card! Therefore, every card is handmade and has slight variation from card to card, making every one unique. –Ashley Leath, Founder Happy Penguin Press

Hometown: San Diego, CA… but she calls Birmingham, AL home
College Football Allegiance: Notre Dame. It’s a sentimental thing. Her dad loves the Irish.
She married Bryan & into the SEC so the South Carolina Gamecocks now rule the roost.
Loves: Baking, books & letterpress… of course!

so, Ashley.
we’re like, dying to know…

three quirky things
1.) I love things to be neat and organized, except in the printing studio where I’m free to be messy.
2.) I collect signed first editions of novels, which means I’m always on the lookout for a new bookshelf.
3.) I grew up traveling with my parents, who are both painters and sold their work at outdoor art shows.
{by the time I went to college I’d moved about 17 times}

what’s your favorite Southern food & who makes it best?
It’s the first food I ever had that I identified with the South.
My mom’s mom came to visit us in California when I was young and she made us biscuits every morning.
{they tasted like clouds dipped in butter}
