Cranberry Barbecue Sauce

Barbecue sauces filled with fall fruit liven up football fan fare instantly. Cranberry Barbecue Sauce may be added to traditional smoked pulled pork sandwiches, ribs & chicken for undeniable good taste. Prepare the sauce several days in advance so that it may be used at a moments notice. Although just a smattering of jalapeños are included, increase the amount for extra spice, if desired. Learn how to make an irresistible sauce perfect for game day celebrations.

makes 1 3/4 cups

Game Changer

Fresh seasonal cranberries brighten this sweet, pungent condiment made with commercial barbecue sauce. Expect a thick sauce with bold flavor that can be used on a variety of grilled main dish selections. 

1 cup fresh cranberries
1 cup apple juice
3 Tbsp brown sugar
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp minced jalapeño 
1 cup barbecue sauce

Bring the first 5 ingredients to a boil in a 2-quart saucepan with tall sides over Medium heat. Cook 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Do not step away as the bubbles will rise up the pan sides as it cooks. Turn down the heat & stir the mixture, if necessary. Stir in the barbecue sauce & bring to a simmer over Medium-Low heat. Cook 2 minutes or until heated through. Use as directed.

The Extra Point

For a twist, omit the cranberries & substitute 1 cup diced Granny Smith apple to prepare a tasty new sauce variation.

When preparing recipes that call for brown sugar, it’s important to get an accurate measurement. Be certain to pack it tightly in the measuring cup & level with a knife, if necessary. Once you have the proper amount, add it as is to the recipes or crumble through your fingers to break it up to ensure the proper blending takes place.
