 Wilton Norman Chamberlain
Born: August 21, 1936
Hometown: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
College: University of Kansas
Nicknames: Wilt The Stilt, The Big Dipper

Wilt Chamberlain is hailed by many as one of the true basketball greats. The colossal sports figure at 7’1 dominated opponents by using his physical girth to gain real results but was known to tap into his softer side at times when scoring by allowing the ball to gently roll from his fingertips into the basket almost as if he were going to tuck it in night-night. After 14 seasons in the NBA, Chamberlain walked away from the court holding the best records for career points & rebounds. Just a smattering of accomplishments achieved include being named Rookie of the Year, two NBA titles & he was voted Most Valuable Player four times during his career.

Throwback Thriller
100 Percent Dead On

In 1962, the Philadelphia Warriors faced-off against the New York Knicks in one of the most epic basketball feats in history. The untelevised, late season basketball game held in Hershey, Pennsylvania started out as just an average event to a half full gymnasium but it soon changed. Chamberlain began heating up & racked an impressive 100 points alone against the Knicks & he still holds the NBA record to date.

No. 2

Rumor Has It

The Philadelphia Warriors had been eyeing Chamberlain throughout his high school career. It’s said that the owner & one of the NBA founders put dibs on him four years before he was even draft eligible by trading in his first round pick. He patiently waited & it paid off in scores.

 No. 3

Leaps & Inbounds

Many rules changed when Chamberlain played ball. He was able to rocket forward from the foul line & dunk his free throws. The new rule stated that the foul line could not be crossed. When inbounding the ball, he used to pelt it over the backboard to himself then he’d shoot for the score. The lane was also widened from 12 to 16 feet to give opposing teams more of a chance to get in the game.
